Just another day

I heard someone once say “the way you spend your New Years is the way you’re going to spend the rest of that year”… But now that I’m older it feels more like one of those made up proverbs cuz it’s never worked out that way. One year I had the best new years ever, spending the best time with the best people. Four months later, all of them were out of my life. Another year I had truly bad New Years, basically standing alone in a crowded room… And still proceeded to have the worst year. I think its just like everything else, you make your own luck. Ok wait, my daughter is really lucky… She wins everything that she enters into… So she just has the luck surrounding her. She’s the exception…

This year I had a very quiet new year, with no alcohol, all by choice. I am NOT expecting that to follow with a quiet non-alcoholic year. I’m not expecting to be alone except that one person. I am not expecting anything of it. Because I create my own fate.

My resolution though… To do more. Not sit at home and read about other people out in the world doing things, making a name for themselves, making friends going places… But ME doing them. Just like the movie “yes man” with Jim Carrey, I’m going to say yes more. A lot more. Starting with the blog… I’m going to write more. Share more. Talk more. Do more.

So this will be the first of many… On the road to my own happiness.

2013 in review

The wonderful WordPress helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for my blog. Want to take a look see?

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,900 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 32 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

… Readers from 73 different countries – not bad. But my new years resolution (like most bloggers) will be to
Create more. Write more. Share more.

A big THANK YOU to all my readers and shoppers. Without you there would only be me … In a tiny room … overflowing with funny tees, silly dolls and mountains of scrap fabrics.

Thanks to my fans, old and new

Why couldn’t yesterday have been like today… Sun, no wind … 11 degrees!? Sigh. All in all I would like the say THANK YOU to all the urock fans who stoped by the booth at the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival yesterday. It really made my day!! Note to other artists reading the blog… Putting up curtain walls to hold off the frigid breeze is not the best idea I’ve had. Yes we stayed warm, but it created theses massive sails that either lifted and pushed our tent closer and closer to the little cafe across the street, or billowed so big it knocked everything over. I liked the look of my mismatched curtains, but the plan needs to be reworked a little… I saw this one artist who tied lattice work to create “walls, and secured to the ground by cinder blocks. Then I can secure my curtains to the lattice!!

Yep. That’s the plan! Including those pvc concrete filled tubes to weigh the baby down. Again…. Thank you to all my fans, both old and new.

Little sick, but super silly

My body is feeling a little less than perfect but my brain… oooh-weee my brain loves this get-better juice. The creative part of my brain that is, where flowers grow on the ocean waves, and ponies run across rainbow skies. Me feeling siiiiiilly today.

That being said, I needed to craft something. I had been ransacking the world wide web for just a touch of inspiration in creating something funky, new and totally “urock” for my collection … but came up with very little. Then, as I tossed my recently acquired ripped kids pants onto the pile of Lycra scraps from my visit to the Tall Pines Private School in Brampton, it came to me. I’m so excited, but I don’t want to give it all away just yet. But these creations are just for girls… I’m still thinking of what recycled wonders I can do for boys…

I also have some new thought on more sofisticated adult tees, and a more grownup phrase too. What do you think of “I think I’m …. smart, pretty, awesome, brilliant, genius, hilarious” with each tee ending in a different positive trait? For the ladies, I have slim Jersey skirts and baggy tees… More scarves for both fashion + warmth…

I am open to suggestion as usual, so if you have a thought feel free to share.

Oh 2013, will you be the year rock takes over the world??

New original tees for new ladies collection

I am proud to announce the addition of new ladies tees, 100% created by ME! Not just recycled by covering an ugly or outdated logo, but recut, restyled and redesigned for my new simply recycled ladies collection. These ones won’t have the characters, but might have “i think I rock” snuck in somehow…

They are still a work in progress as the sizes are still being tested. And of course, so far, these are the only two created.

Tees will be available soon on etsy, but also October 27th at the MADE BY HAND show at the Mississauga international center.

Next to add.. straight skirts in multiple lengths from recycled logo tees. You know the kind, when you go on vacation and buy the cheesy “i went to Hawaii” with a picture if a sunset or flowers??  I personally like a fitted skirt but as it’s the kind of fabric that will show a lot. So, I’m still working on the design as I want to be sure my clothing will flatter any body type.

But … I need some large sized models/testers. I need one of each: size 29, 30, 34 jean in the kitchener waterloo area … Just message or email me to set something up.
